Join Baltimore County, MD as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic II and contribute to the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and vehicles. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing skilled diagnostic repair and maintenance work on diesel and gasoline powered trucks weighing one ton or more, construction equipment, and the hydraulic and electrical systems on vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Repair, rebuild, and maintain diesel and gasoline powered trucks weighing one ton or more and heavy construction equipment.
  • Overhaul and repair gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, and brakes.
  • Repair and replace damaged body parts.
  • Prepare metal body parts for final painting.
  • Paint truck and equipment bodies.
  • Repair tires.
  • Overhaul, repair, and rebuild complex hydraulic systems and their components.
  • Diagnose machine failures.
  • Repair electrical systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Remove, repair, and replace heavy track systems.
  • Perform general welding of steel and other metal parts of machinery using electric, acetylene, brazing, or cutting techniques as appropriate.
  • Fabricate steel parts and modify equipment to improve performance, safety, and/or durability.
  • Install, repair, maintain aerial ladders, pumps, warning devices, and other specialized equipment used on fire and medical emergency vehicles.
  • Lead and instruct lesser skilled workers.
Requirements:
  • Five years' experience in automotive repair and maintenance.
  • Two years of which were in heavy truck and heavy construction equipment engines and special components, including diesel, track, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Related training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required experience.
  • Licenses and Certificates: Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a commercial, class B or class A Maryland driver's license and a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification by the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence in Heavy-Duty Trucks T1 (Gasoline engines) - T2 (Diesel engines) - T3 (Drive Train) - T4 (Brakes) - T5 (Suspension and Steering) - T6 (Electrical Systems) T7 (HVAC) is preferred.
