Position Overview
The Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is in search of a dedicated Float Sitter - Nursing Assistant. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring patients and providing essential nursing support to Veterans experiencing a range of health conditions in a clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Collaborating with the Team Leader/Charge Nurse to organize assignments prior to the start of each shift.
  • Actively listening to reports, noting critical information, and integrating it into patient care.
  • Developing a work schedule that aligns with unit protocols and seeking guidance when prioritizing patient needs.
  • Respecting the diverse lifestyles of adult patients and facilitating necessary adjustments related to their health.
  • Encouraging patients to remain physically and socially engaged, while supporting their independence.
  • Assisting patients in coping with losses, such as diminished abilities or the passing of loved ones.
  • Providing basic nursing procedures and treatments as per established competencies.
  • Supporting the Team Leader/Charge Nurse in delivering timely and organized care to a group of patients.
  • Recognizing medical and behavioral emergencies and promptly seeking assistance; completing required training in basic life support.
  • Participating in interdisciplinary meetings to enhance care coordination and patient outcomes.
  • Implementing discharge planning interventions as directed by the Team Leader/Charge Nurse.
  • Delivering respectful and individualized care that upholds the dignity and self-esteem of Veterans.
  • Functioning as a therapeutic companion for Veterans requiring close observation, ensuring their safety and engagement in activities.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of nursing care and patient responses in accordance with established standards.
  • Following the admission protocols for designated Veterans and reporting any incidents to the Team Leader/Charge Nurse.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Work Schedule
This position involves a shift from 7:30 PM to 8:00 AM, including an 8-hour shift per pay period, with weekend and holiday responsibilities.

Qualifications

Physical Requirements
This role may involve prolonged periods of walking, standing, and assisting patients, necessitating physical stamina and the ability to handle potentially stressful situations.
