POSITION OVERVIEW

The Junior Canine Handler is tasked with inspecting cargo in accordance with TSA regulations. This role necessitates the completion of a minimum 4–8 week training program and certification before deployment to the designated area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage in CCSP-related training to effectively search cargo and recognize explosive threats.
  • Execute authorized representative functions pertaining to X-Ray, physical searches, and explosive trace detection as required.
  • Fulfill Handler responsibilities while managing a trained explosive detection canine.
  • Maintain accurate training records.
  • Ensure the proper care and upkeep of the assigned certified canine, which is permitted to reside within the employee's home. The living conditions must be suitable, indoor, and climate-controlled for the canine, subject to regular inspections.
  • Maintain all job-related certifications and necessary security clearances.
  • Be prepared to operate a company vehicle during on-site training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Ability to obtain a Known Traveler Number (KTN) within a specified timeframe of employment.
  • Capability to secure a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge within the employment period.
  • Must achieve a Security Threat Assessment (STA) for Airport Badge within the employment timeframe.
  • Possess adequate transportation to transport the assigned canine and crate to/from the work location, with operational climate control.
  • Must successfully pass the relevant Contract Testing and Certifications for the program within the employment period, maintaining certification requirements.
  • Hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record for the past three years.
  • Exhibit effective oral and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational abilities to manage time and multiple priorities effectively.
  • Possess problem-solving skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly evolving environment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work conditions may range from a dynamic training setting to field operations, both subject to frequent interruptions. Regular outdoor work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and humidity, is required. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations may occur. Work hours will align with the customer's agreed-upon schedule, requiring availability during nights, weekends, and holidays, with a variable work schedule. Travel may also be necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be capable of lifting and carrying awkward items weighing up to 100 lbs. The role requires prolonged standing in all weather conditions, along with intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending, and kneeling. Continuous use of hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms is essential.
