About the Role

The University of the Pacific is seeking a highly skilled Academic Support Librarian for Health Sciences to join our team. This is a key role in supporting student success and academic excellence in the health sciences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Deliver Educational Programs: Create and implement high-impact educational programs that strategically target evidence-based research-intensive courses and scaffold learning outcomes, in collaboration with health sciences faculty.
  • Provide Research Consultation and Instruction: Offer research consultation and class instructional services, in-person and online, for assigned subject areas, ensuring students have the necessary skills to succeed in their research endeavors.
  • Curate Health Sciences Collections: Curate health sciences collections utilizing owned, licensed, and open-source resources, and foster resource discoverability, visibility, and usage, ensuring students have access to the latest and most relevant information.
  • Collaborate with Academic Partners: Collaborate with fellow Academic Support Librarians and student-centered academic partners to support student success and retention through research consultations, library instruction, and other information literacy services and programs.
  • Support Digital Scholarship and Open Access: Support digital scholarship and open access initiatives by providing guidance on data management, digital humanities, contributions to the institutional repository, Scholarly Commons, and other emerging trends and technologies.
  • Contribute to Campus Information Literacy Goals: Contribute to campus information literacy goals and assessment, and school accreditation efforts, ensuring the library's services align with the university's strategic objectives.
  • Participate in Professional Development: Participate in local, regional, national, or international organizations that advance library and information science in health fields, staying up-to-date with the latest developments and best practices.
  • Engage in Collaborative Research: Engage in collaborative research projects and communities with faculty, students, and other librarians, both internally and externally, to advance knowledge and best practices in health sciences librarianship.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Library or Information Science: Hold an ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science, or a related field, with a focus on health sciences or a related area.
  • Experience in Academic Library Setting: Possess two years of experience providing information services in an academic library setting, with a focus on health sciences or a related area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching and Learning Experience: Demonstrate success in teaching and learning activities, including understanding of best practices such as active learning, project-based learning, or evidence-based practice to transform student learning experiences and improve student retention.
  • Collection Curation Experience: Have experience with collection curation, including the evaluation and selection of content in print and electronic formats, and document delivery and resource-sharing services.
  • Open Educational Resources (OER) Experience: Have knowledge of Open Educational Resources (OER) and creative ability to support faculty with OER initiatives, promoting cost-effective and high-quality educational materials.
  • Technology Skills: Possess facility with utilizing technology to transform research and learning experiences, including proficiency in library software and systems.
  • Time Management and Project Coordination: Demonstrate ability to manage time and coordinate projects in a rapidly changing environment, with a positive, flexible, and innovative attitude.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, students, and staff.
