Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Authorization Lead Pharmacy Technician to join our team at UCLA Health. This role will play a critical part in improving patient access to treatment and adherence to medically necessary pharmaceuticals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage patient insurance benefits and utilize established patient assistance programs to ensure timely access to treatment.
  • Train and mentor community practice authorization coordinators on Hematology/Oncology standard of care and research authorizations clearance.
  • Work closely with the Manager and Supervisor to provide ongoing training and support to existing staff members.
  • Serve as a resource for all authorization coordinators and community practice managers, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Liaise between medical staff, insurance providers, and patients to facilitate and coordinate authorization for all medications related to patient care.
Requirements
  • Pharmacy Technician License in the State of California in good standing.
  • Ability to interpret medical information required to perform prior authorizations.
  • Ability to interpret medication information required to perform patient assistance.
  • Ability to interpret medical information required to perform second-level appeals.
  • Ability to retrieve, interpret, and utilize departmental and third-party insurance policies and procedures effectively.
  • Ability to speak with persons from various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds to obtain information and explain the authorization process.
  • Working knowledge of the UCLA billing codes, their restrictions, and applications to individual patient and clinic orders.
  • Advanced technical computer skills, including proficiency in CareConnect, Microsoft Office Applications, and UCLA-specific software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 2 years of oncology-related experience.
