Role Summary
This role involves providing essential support to faculty members in various academic settings. The Academic Support Specialist will assist in course management, research initiatives, and the development of assessment tools.
Responsibilities may include leading classes or supervising examinations.

The Department of Political Science offers practical experiences, allowing students to engage with city managers and gain insights into public administration.
Specific Responsibilities
The Academic Support Specialist will:
- Assist faculty in various capacities, including covering classes or supervising exams.
- Deliver lectures in areas of expertise.
- Provide tutoring in relevant subjects.
- Support faculty with course preparation, including research, presentation development, and record-keeping.
- Facilitate group study sessions as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Enrollment Criteria
Fall/Spring Semesters:
All student employees must maintain at least half-time enrollment to qualify for any student position. For graduate students, half-time is defined as 5 credit hours, while undergraduates must enroll in 6 credit hours. International students are required to maintain full-time enrollment to be eligible for student employment, which is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 for undergraduates.
Summer Semester:
Students in regular positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours during the summer to be eligible for employment.
Students not enrolled in summer courses must be registered for fall classes to work during the summer, and both the student and department will be subject to FICA taxes.
For Federal Work Study Program positions, students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate) during the summer.
Enrollment Exception:
If a student requires fewer credit hours to graduate than the minimum for employment, they must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor confirming the necessary hours and anticipated graduation date to submit to Human Resources.
Qualifications
Applicants must be enrolled as graduate students in the MPA or MA-Political Science degree programs during their employment.
