Position Overview:
The Cybersecurity Systems Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in the formulation and implementation of NYSTEC's cybersecurity strategies. This position requires collaboration with staff and management at all levels, as well as external partners, to safeguard NYSTEC's essential business operations and systems in alignment with industry best practices. The specialist will be responsible for executing comprehensive cybersecurity functions to mitigate risks while enhancing operational capacity and productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with security configurations and requirements, including but not limited to HIPAA/HiTrust, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Manage security toolsets and collaborate with external security vendors and the NYSTEC technical systems team to define the scope of internal and external vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
- Design and deliver security awareness training programs for the organization.
- Lead the development and review of enterprise security documentation, policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
- Safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data across the organization's systems, applications, databases, and other data repositories.
- Work alongside the technical services team and cross-functional departments to address and remediate security vulnerabilities.
- Provide recommendations for additional security measures or enhancements to strengthen the overall security posture and defense-in-depth strategy.
- Assist in the deployment, integration, and initial configuration of new security solutions, ensuring adherence to established best practices and standards.
- Conduct research, development, implementation, testing, and review of the organization's information security measures to protect sensitive information and prevent unauthorized access.
- This role will require some onsite work.
Candidate Profile:
Required Qualifications:
- Proficient in the Windows operating environment, including Microsoft Office applications, email, and internet tools.
- Experienced cybersecurity professional with a proven track record in developing, documenting, and promoting the adoption of information security standards and procedures.
- Strong expertise with firewall technologies, intrusion detection systems, DMZ configurations, IPSec, DNS, SMTP, HTTP proxies, and related security mechanisms.
- Commitment to staying informed about developments in the IT security landscape, including new security solutions, improved processes, and emerging threats, along with ongoing education and certifications to maintain compliance.
- Excellent organizational skills for maintaining documentation and gathering evidence for reporting and incident analysis.
- Knowledge of security best practices across various platforms, including Microsoft Windows, Office365, and Azure.
- Strong project management capabilities.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with effective time management and task prioritization abilities.
- Experience with zero trust technologies, least privilege access, network architectures, and segmentation.
- Alignment with NYSTEC's mission, brand values, and core principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or similar credential in information security is preferred.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in cybersecurity or a related field, along with five years of experience with security management frameworks (e.g., NIST, SANS). Equivalent combinations of advanced education, training, and experience will also be considered.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
