About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Specialist to join our team at Georgia-Pacific, a leading manufacturer of paper products and other consumer goods. As a Safety Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our employees and the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop employees in the Principle Based Management philosophy and framework
  • Identify and evaluate hazards in existing or future equipment, processes, and operations
  • Develop and implement effective safety programs, including industrial hygiene, confined space, lock tag verify, machine guarding, fall protection, and incident investigation
  • Work with all aspects of Safety & Health programs, including program development, training, continuous improvement, compliance standard ownership, and subject matter expertise
  • Provide a visible safety presence in the field with operations, maintenance, and contractor work groups
  • Develop and deliver required regulatory training
  • Perform Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA) and other risk assessments
  • Develop the capability to conduct effective incident investigations to seek learning opportunities
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to facilitate ownership for safety at all levels
  • Seek feedback/input of others to better understand and make improvements to Safety & Health initiatives
  • Develop Facility Risk Assessments (FRA) and Department Risk Assessments (DRA)
  • Lead safety audits, assessments, inspections, and interactions with government agencies
  • Work independently with vendors on finding solutions for safety opportunities
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Safety, Contractor Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Engineering, or three (3) or more years of working experience in a safety & health, engineering, or leadership role
  • Safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial facility
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Safety Certifications (i.e., GSP, ASP, or CSP)
  • Knowledge of OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926, NFPA Codes, and ANSI
  • Experience recognizing and mitigating hazards
  • Establish sustainable systems for compliance and continuous improvement
