Physician 3 - Gender Affirming Medical Specialist

Job Summary:

The Department of Corrections Health Services Division is seeking a highly motivated and professional Physician 3 - Gender Affirming Medical Specialist to take on the newly established role of providing medical care to transgender and gender diverse incarcerated individuals statewide.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct patient care of all transgender individuals statewide in DOC.
  • Act as a treating consultant for transgender patients in conjunction with the on-site staff.
  • Manage assessment for and treatment with hormones and consideration for surgical intervention.
  • Represent WA DOC gender affirming program in leadership discussion, strategic planning, and meetings with various stakeholders.
  • Participate in the Transgender Care Review Committee (CRC).
  • Provide consultation and training to other healthcare professionals in DOC.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities within Health Services and DOC-wide as needed.
Requirements:
  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Washington State.
  • Unrestricted DEA license with waiver to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers certified within 60 days of hire.
  • Experience supervising and/or directing health care delivery operations.
  • Significant experience (at least 1 year) in providing health care for transgender individuals.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of Internal Medicine or Family Practice Residency.
  • Additional training such as fellowship/training program in transgender healthcare.
  • WPATH Certified or willing to obtain WPATH certification within 2 years of employment.
  • Experience working in a correctional facility.
  • Certification as a Correctional Health Professional.
