The CTO will also champion cybersecurity efforts in collaboration with Ports America stakeholders, focusing on the development, execution, and oversight of information management and cybersecurity policies, training, standards, and related procedures to safeguard the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategically plan and manage local IT personnel to ensure comprehensive support for terminal operations.
  • Oversee software development timelines with external partners, ensuring accountability for delivery commitments, quality assurance, and compliance with agreed-upon terms.
  • Collaborate with remote IT support teams to establish a tiered support framework.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal business partners, stakeholders, and application vendors.
  • Align IT initiatives with business objectives to enhance productivity and drive process improvements.
  • Ensure cost-effective service delivery and performance metrics are achieved by all vendor groups supporting terminal operations.
  • Recommend and devise IT solutions that align with operational goals and comply with collective agreements.
  • Manage projects within established fiscal budgetary constraints.
  • Develop the annual IT budget and a five-year capital expenditure plan to support business initiatives.
  • Lead and organize projects for the implementation of new and existing applications and systems within budgetary limits.
  • Set project priorities, assess engagement, initiate new projects, and issue directives related to innovation.
  • Identify industry trends and potential opportunities.
  • Formulate strategies for project prioritization, business alignment, and execution of terminal and customer solution initiatives.
  • Present and facilitate discussions on technological advancements and innovation strategies.
  • Collaborate with Business and Market Intelligence to analyze competitive technology landscapes.
  • Provide guidance to staff in defining objectives for existing or proposed customer systems and in designing system enhancements.
  • Review current customer systems to recommend improvements that reduce costs and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Build connections with the external shipping community, including major carriers, government entities, IT vendors, and peers in the marine terminal sector.
  • Onsite presence required.
  • Travel commitment: 20%.
Required Skills:
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficient in managing complex business scenarios.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Executive presence with the ability to engage effectively with large audiences.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in technology management within a terminal operating context.
  • 8+ years of senior-level operational experience.
  • Familiarity with computerized operating and financial systems, along with P&L accountability.
Financial Oversight:
  • Accountable for an annual capital expense budget exceeding $5,000,000.
  • Oversees an annual operating expense budget of $2,500,000.
Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Supervises a diverse IT team, including Service Delivery, Application Support, EDI, and Infrastructure/Hardware professionals.
Work Environment:
  • Ability to navigate various operational environments, including shipping and terminal facilities.
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous environments typical of ports and shipping terminals.
