Key responsibilities include conducting frozen section staining, applying cover-slips, and accurately labeling slides to facilitate diagnostic evaluations. Effective communication is vital to enhance team knowledge, and adherence to regulatory standards is necessary to meet compliance requirements. Additionally, participation in professional development opportunities is encouraged to foster personal and departmental growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Adhere to site-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs), manuals, and instructions; comply with regulatory agency guidelines (CAP, JCAHO, Medicare, OSHA, state, FDA); remain informed by attending meetings or reviewing minutes; promptly sign off on changes; and stay updated through emails and informational resources. Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained in a clean and functional state, demonstrating troubleshooting and corrective action skills for any instrument or specimen errors; accurately obtain and organize specimens for further processing. Process specimens using appropriate fixatives or decalcification agents, including special procedures for lymph node defatting and preparation of flow cytometry media; label cassettes accurately and maintain grossing stations and frozen section rooms in a clean and operational condition. Organize periodic quality assurance materials for pathology peer review; accession specimens, order procedures, enter level charges, and generate slide labels accurately and efficiently; manage supply orders to maintain adequate inventory levels. Accurately process send-outs; perform cover-slipping and labeling of slides to support diagnostic evaluations; ensure stained slides are covered uniformly and are free of artifacts. Prepare and maintain morgue and autopsy areas; assist pathologists during autopsies, which may include opening and closing bodies; process, prepare, and stain cytology specimens to ensure quality results and accurate diagnoses. Conduct necessary quality assurance and clerical duties as required. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
