Job Title: Director of Patient Care Services

This Director of Patient Care Services position is responsible for providing professional leadership in the nursing organization, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective nursing care is delivered, and working to integrate the goals of the service and the hospital. The individual in this position will assure the work environment adheres to regulatory requirements and departmental practices and processes reflect high-quality standards that support excellence in patient care and a safe environment for patients, employees, physicians, visitors, and guests.

Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure provision of high-quality patient care to a specified patient population that meets the standards of local, state, and national regulatory bodies and professional organizations.
  2. Develop leadership within the hospital that supports and maintains excellence in research-based nursing practice.
  3. Develop, integrate, and implement goals of the hospital and nursing into their service line(s).
  4. Lead quality programs and work to develop action plans for continuous improvement.
  5. Develop, review, and maintain fiscal budget within established targets, monitoring overtime, labor costs, medical supply expenses, and working with purchasing partners to obtain strong supply contract pricing.
  6. Assure staffing patterns are flexed and according to unit activity and patient acuity.
  7. Develop and manage the annual capital budget, establishing equipment priorities based on patient unit needs, physician recruitment activities, and revenue potential.
  8. Develop a climate within which professional nursing can thrive and grow.
  9. Develop a program of nursing that ensures recruitment of the highest caliber of nurses and the most effective retention of nurses within the service.
  10. Collaborate with other members of the management team, physicians, and other departments to facilitate the delivery of patient care.
Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

*Bachelors degree in Nursing and a Masters degree in Nursing, MBA, or MHA

*Registered Nurse (RN)

*Internal candidates are required to complete Masters program within 3 years

Required Licensure:

*Registered Nurse (RN)

Experience Required:

*Four (4) years of nursing experience in a tertiary acute care hospital and a minimum of five (5) years of management experience at the nurse manager level or above.

Excellent clinical and operational skills.

Leadership experience within an academic medical facility.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:

*The ability to engage key partners, physicians, employees, and executive leadership, and sustain their commitment to changes in approaches, processes, and strategies.

*The ability to speak and write in a clear, logical, and grammatical manner in formal and informal situations; to prepare cogent business presentations representing the hospital and the health system in a positive manner.

*The ability to take initiative and anticipate obstacles, developments, and problems by looking ahead several months to over a year and to develop a long-term plan strategic plan.
