About the Role

The Portfolio Analyst is a critical team member and facilitator in support of the Wealth Portfolio Managers at Westwood Holdings Group. This position is responsible for preparing trading programs based on guidance from the Wealth PMs, performance reports, as well as preparing detailed investment proposals for prospective clients of Westwood Wealth Management.

A Day in the Life

  • Prepare trade programs based on guidance from the Wealth Portfolio Managers
  • Create trade recommendations based upon request from Private Wealth Advisors
  • Communicate with the trade desk to ensure proper execution of block trades
  • Back up other Portfolio Analysts as needed
  • Create detailed investment proposals for prospective clients using Excel
  • Assists Senior Investment Experts in developing investment plans and monitoring portfolios
  • Responsible for executing investment programs designed to achieve specific client objectives
  • Ensures programs are within policy guidelines approved by management and the investment committee
  • Review accounts to make sure investments are aligned with client objectives
  • Assists senior team members in assembling and reviewing data, conducting statistical analyses, and completing studies of industry groups or individual securities
  • Prepare investment performance and investigate performance related queries as needed
  • Sit in client meetings as needed
  • Create overall asset allocation analysis for clients and prospects
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum Education Required:
    • Bachelor's degree required with preference toward finance, economics, accounting or related fields
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Progress towards CFA charter preferred but not required
  • Minimum Specific Experience Required:
    • Years of investment industry experience

Skills and Qualifications

  • A successful candidate must have a working knowledge of the characteristics of equity and fixed income securities
  • High level understanding of the principles of asset allocation
  • Should be able to explain basic valuation concepts of equity securities (price multiples, DCF, etc.)
  • This position will require the candidate to be a proficient user of Microsoft Excel
  • Must have significant experience working with Excel, including Data Analysis. Experience with Macros/Visual Basic a plus
  • Positive attitude with a demonstrated interest in private wealth management
  • Basic knowledge of the tax implications faced by private wealth investors, including capital gains and estate taxes
  • Ability to learn new concepts quickly
  • Takes initiative and acts proactively (i.e. anticipates problems and raises suggestions)
  • Highly organized individual who can juggle and prioritize a variety of tasks daily
  • Able to work collaboratively in a small team environment
  • High professional standards and good business judgment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with senior stakeholders and sophisticated clients
