Job Summary

The Laboratory Assistant is a vital member of our healthcare team, responsible for providing quality service in a timely, courteous, and cost-effective manner. This role requires collaboration with medical technologists, nursing staff, and physicians to deliver exceptional diagnostic services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Phlebotomy: Collect blood samples from patients using aseptic technique and correct equipment, ensuring minimal trauma and proper labeling of blood tubes.
  • Specimen Accessioning: Accurately label and enter specimen information into the laboratory computer system, ensuring proper billing and test ordering.
  • Reporting Results: Enter and review results in the laboratory computer, delivering reports to nurses' stations and physicians' boxes in a timely manner.
  • Specimen Collection: Collect nasal smears, throat cultures, and eye cultures as ordered by physicians, communicating effectively with the healthcare team.
Requirements
  • Education: High School graduate or GED required.
  • Experience/Training: At least six months of previous hospital lab experience preferred.
  • License/Certifications: Current Washington State Medical Assistant Phlebotomy (MA-P, PC) or Medical Assistant – Certified (MA-C) license required, American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification also required.
Work Environment

The Laboratory Assistant will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong communication and teamwork skills. The physical demands of this role include standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching throughout the day, with frequent lifting or moving of objects up to 20 pounds.
