Job Summary

The Marathon Petroleum Corporation is seeking a skilled Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer to join our team at the Carson, California Refinery. As a key member of the Inspection Group, you will play a critical role in ensuring the mechanical availability and reliability of our fixed equipment and piping.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Inspection Group in addressing issues that impact the mechanical availability of fixed equipment and provide solutions to maximize mechanical integrity and reliability.
  • Work with Area Team members and Inspectors to broaden their understanding of unique fixed equipment reliability issues affecting each unit.
  • Collaborate with Inspection, Maintenance, Engineering, Tech Service, and Area Teams to identify areas of concern and make recommendations for fixed equipment reliability improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure that all recommended fixed equipment upgrades are included in budget plans.
  • Make recommendations on new fixed equipment designs during project development to improve and ensure reliability.
  • Support purchasing and engineering functions by reviewing fabrication drawings for proper material selection and design compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Provide support for Risk-Based Inspection analyses, reviews, and recommendations.
  • Work with the Turnaround Planning Group to ensure turnaround plans align with fixed equipment reliability improvement goals.
  • Prepare technical bid packages for fixed equipment identified as required for reliability improvements.
  • Select and conduct focused reliability improvement programs to highlight chronic issues, identify long-term investment needs, and solve systemic problems.
  • Perform and/or manage Fitness for Service and remaining life calculations per applicable RAGAGEP.
  • Manage heat exchanger tube bundle life cycle programs to make recommendations for inspection/testing, replacement, or upgrade metallurgy.
  • Initiate preventative maintenance changes for fixed equipment where needed.
  • Complete Management of Change work process for fixed equipment changes.
  • Manage fixed equipment spare parts and updates to equipment files.
  • Perform assigned incident investigations and complete recommended action items pertaining to fixed equipment.
  • Review applicable Operations procedures and revisions.
  • Engage in maintenance procedure development and review process to ensure procedures are consistent with known reliability best practices.
  • Engage in the review of inspection and fixed equipment engineering specifications and standard practices to identify and recommend changes if needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Materials, Civil, or Corrosion Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years post-degree experience as a Fixed Equipment Engineer in the refining, petrochemical, or manufacturing industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery, physically perform tasks in the field, and pass a hair drug test.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC Card.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US without future VISA sponsorship.

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree.
  • Relocation may be available.
