Healthcare Support Specialist

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Health Care Technician (HCT) provides support to the licensed nursing staff and performs activities related to the personal care and hygiene needs of an assigned patient group. The ideal candidate will facilitate communication with other departments, visitors, patients, medical staff, and employees, serving as a public relations liaison for the unit. This role works under the direct supervision of the nursing manager.
Responsibilities- Assist with the maintenance of unit supplies to ensure the smooth function of the unit, including stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments and equipment, ordering supplies, and making up charts.
- Collect data on assigned patients as directed by Registered Nurse (RN) and ensure accurate documentation.
- Demonstrate competency in selected psychomotor skills as outlined in the skills checklist, including measurement of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and measuring and recording intake and output.
- Perform or assist patients with the activities of daily living, preparing patients for transportation and/or transport.
- Get report with delegated duties from nurse at beginning of each shift.
- Round on assigned patients on the odd hour, doing purposeful rounding and marking initials on the white board upon exiting the patient room.
- Attend 5 out of 6 scheduled staff meetings per year.
- Document patient care delivery per unit expectations and pass chart audit with no more than 2 deficits.
- Assist with activities of daily living with assigned patients, including hygiene care, toileting, ambulating as appropriate.
- Accurately document patient care delivery, including intake and output, meals, oral intake, and urine/BM output, and lines, drains as appropriate.
- High School Diploma/Equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Completion of CNA coursework within the past 24 months, or successful completion of Carle's HCT In-Training Program, or worked as a CNA within the past 24 months, or successful completion of at least one semester of nursing clinical experiences, or documented relevant medical military training.
