Position Overview: Pancreatic Cancer Research Scientist

This role is centered on advancing our understanding of Pancreatic Cancer through RNA biology investigations. The project aims to explore the role of post-transcriptional gene regulation in tumor progression, utilizing RNA-related structure-function modeling. Our laboratory integrates animal models with pathological and immunological evaluations, employing state-of-the-art methodologies such as targeted gene expression analysis and comprehensive gene expression profiling techniques, including RNA sequencing, single-cell RNA sequencing, RIP sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. Candidates will engage in one of our intriguing research initiatives and are expected to gain expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology, and mouse genetics, alongside possessing strong collaborative skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research Design: Formulate and execute experiments, adapt and implement innovative research methodologies, and collaborate with the Principal Investigator (PI) to establish hypotheses.
  • Laboratory Operations: Conduct both routine and advanced laboratory procedures, including working with murine models and applying molecular biology techniques.
  • Data Interpretation: Analyze, interpret, and summarize experimental data while maintaining meticulous records of research activities.
  • Scientific Communication: Engage in presentations and publications as an author or co-author, effectively sharing findings with the scientific community.
  • Team Collaboration: Work alongside fellow lab members and contribute to research projects, while also mentoring junior team members.
  • Grant Writing Support: Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and utilize communication skills to convey ideas to potential funders or academic stakeholders.
  • Instruction: Provide training and guidance to research staff on various techniques.

The expectation is that Postdoctoral Researchers will collaborate with the Bioinformatics team and the Wetlab support team to foster deeper discussions and insights, thereby enhancing therapeutic innovation and novel drug discovery.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess or be on track to obtain a PhD/MD or a related qualification by the time of hire.

Application Requirements:

  • Research statement (1-3 pages)
  • Teaching/mentoring statement (maximum of 1 page)
  • Writing samples
  • References (minimum of 3)

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate-level certification in research methodology and/or health specialization is highly desirable. Prior experience in molecular biology, mouse genetics, and disease models is essential. Expertise in studying mRNA expression, subcellular fragmentation, and interactions among proteins, RNA, and DNA is preferred. Previous first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals are advantageous. Candidates should be highly motivated to pursue an independent career in translational biomedical research and demonstrate excellent communication, time management, and teamwork abilities.
