Position Overview:
The Bioinformatics Research Analyst will engage in advanced bioinformatics and systems biology research focused on understanding the impacts of SIV infection and substance abuse on neural and splenic cells, as well as the implications of Parkinson's gene mutations on hematological cells.
This role will involve integrating findings from various experimental data sets. The analyst will primarily utilize computational methods, leveraging available research software and engaging in data formatting and programming tasks.
Additionally, there will be opportunities to acquire laboratory skills, including FACS analysis, to support data interpretation for ongoing projects.
The selected candidate will collaborate on multiple research initiatives alongside various UNMC investigators and external partners.
Salary Grade:
RA21S
Compensation Range:
$47,000 - $70,500 annually
Qualifications:
Required Education:
Degree in a scientific discipline
Required Experience:
Minimum of 1 year in bioinformatics data analysis or data management.
Required Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and the Microsoft Office suite. Familiarity with file structures, open-source software installation, and troubleshooting is essential. Strong communication skills are necessary for effective collaboration within the lab and with external partners. Accurate documentation of workflows is crucial.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with various programming languages and familiarity with Python and R is advantageous. A high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and effective record-keeping abilities in laboratory settings are desired. The ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets independently while managing multiple deadlines is essential.
