Key Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems design and installation
  • Skilled in reading and understanding technical drawings, specifications, and bid documents
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with estimating software
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks

Job Responsibilities:

  • Determine the scope of work and contents of the project estimate
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and vendors to obtain and calculate specific costs of labor, equipment, and materials to prepare estimates
  • Maintain positive relationships with engineers, architects, subcontractors, contractors, and vendors, suggesting adjustments as needed to the scope of projects
  • Research historical cost data to prepare bids and assist in the development of guidelines for future estimates
  • Analyze awarded and lost estimates to identify anomalies and opportunities for future improvement

Preferred Education and Certifications:

  • College degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics, construction management, or building science preferred and/or 5-10 years of experience in the Mechanical/HVAC/Plumbing (or related) industries. Additional trade school certification or internship experience is also beneficial.
