Essential Job Functions
Responsibilities:
- Conduct a variety of accounting tasks throughout the annual accounting cycle, including the establishment and upkeep of financial records, classification of revenue and expenditure transactions, journalizing financial activities, preparing trial balances, and making closing period adjustments.
- Interpret financial regulations and standards, advising on their implementation.
- Perform cost surveys, revenue analyses, and accounting systems evaluations, compiling reports of findings.
- Compile, assess, and reconcile complex operating statements and financial claims for reimbursement from various entities.
- Prepare balance sheets, revenue statements, fund balance reports, and specialized financial documentation.
- Generate expenditure and revenue reports, and compile periodic financial statements for review.
- Conduct routine audits of financial records for various organizations, drafting audit reports and recommendations.
- Coordinate audits with internal and external auditors, preparing necessary documentation and providing assistance.
- Analyze existing cost accounting systems to ensure realistic cost estimates, recommending modifications as needed.
- Act as a liaison with other departments regarding accounting matters.
- Participate in the implementation of systems and procedures.
- Supervise a small team of accounting support staff as necessary.
- Serve as the department's Internal Control Certification Program (ICCP) coordinator as required.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
We seek individuals who possess:
- 21 semester or 32 quarter units of accounting from an accredited institution, including at least two advanced accounting courses.
- OPTION I: One year of entry-level accounting or auditing experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Accountant I.
- OPTION II: Two years of technical accounting experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Accounting Technician II.
To receive credit for required units and coursework, you must include a legible copy of official transcripts from the accredited institution at the time of filing or within seven calendar days from application submission.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Drivers License or the ability to utilize alternative transportation methods as needed for job-related functions.
PHYSICAL EXPECTATIONS:
Physical Class II - Light: This classification includes administrative positions requiring light physical effort, which may involve occasional light lifting and some bending or stooping. Considerable movement may be involved.
