Position Overview:

This role involves capturing x-ray images of specific areas of the human anatomy for diagnostic evaluations and supporting the imaging department. The incumbent will carry out routine laboratory functions in accordance with established protocols. Responsibilities include performing waived testing and, when necessary, conducting phlebotomy. This position is limited to plain films and fluoroscopy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicates procedures to patients to ensure comprehension and provides relevant educational resources.
  • Facilitates patient transport to and from clinical settings, confirming patient identity as per established guidelines. Aids technologists in preparing patients for radiological examinations by positioning them appropriately.
  • Assists technologists with the organization and retrieval of patient reports and documentation, ensuring accurate matching of films to patient files.
  • Adheres to radiation safety protocols to minimize unnecessary exposure to patients.
  • Prepares and administers contrast agents and medications in compliance with professional standards and regulations.
  • Monitors patients during procedures, reporting any irregularities and suggesting necessary updates to protocols.
  • Ensures timely submission of high-quality images and documentation to the PACS system, maintaining accuracy in patient data.
  • Checks the functionality of equipment and reports any issues to the appropriate personnel, implementing lockout/tagout procedures when necessary.
  • Contributes to maintaining a clean and organized environment within the department, including procedure rooms and laboratory areas.
  • May perform limited CT scans in emergency situations when a CT Technologist is unavailable.
  • Collects, labels, processes, and preserves biological specimens in accordance with laboratory standards.
  • Enters and manages lab orders in the laboratory and electronic medical record systems.
  • May conduct phlebotomy and/or waived testing as required.
  • Handles various administrative tasks, including patient admissions, insurance verification, and medical record management.
  • Maintains a state of alertness and operates in a safe manner at all times.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or completion of a radiology certification program.

Experience:

  • No prior experience is necessary.

Physical Demands:

  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent visual acuity for both near and far distances.
  • Regular use of auditory skills for communication and monitoring equipment.
  • Frequent lifting and moving of patients and objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting of heavier objects (25-50 lbs.) and performing repetitive movements.

Licensure and Certifications:

Must possess the following certifications based on the state of employment:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification - State-specific requirements
  • ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

Work Schedule:

Variable shifts may be required.
