Job Overview

Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled Medical Billing Specialist to join our team in Ophthalmology. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to work with a dynamic team and contribute to the success of our healthcare organization.

Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with billing and insurance related matters, including communicating with patients regarding balances owed and facilitating collection of balances owed.
  • Educate patients about financial assistance opportunities, insurance coverage, treatment costs, and clinic billing policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians and technicians to understand treatment plans and determine costs associated with these plans; Work closely with staff on managed care and referral related issues; communicate findings to patients.
  • Coordinate the pre-certification process with clinical staff.
  • Handle billing inquiries received via telephone or via written correspondence.
Requirements

We are seeking an individual with 1-3 years of experience in physician/healthcare billing/registration/accounting and/or overall patient financial counseling. A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Knowledge of insurance billing procedures, ICD and CPT coding, and expertise with third-party payors are essential skills for this role. Experience with EPIC/EMR is also preferred.

Estimated Salary Range

The estimated salary range for this position is $45,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
