Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Construction Estimator to join our team at University Mechanical Contractors, Inc (UMC). As a key member of our estimating department, you will be responsible for bid and budgeting all industrial piping, equipment, structural, civil works, HVAC/Air Systems, and complex mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of union trade agreements and their impact on estimates.
  • Participate in bid activities, including specialty quotes, equipment pricing, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Generate subcontractor and vendor request for bids and confirm bid coverage.
  • Review specifications and drawings prior to takeoffs.
  • Complete estimating forms to prepare a comprehensive estimate.
  • Update current pricing and labor in the estimating program on a regular basis.

Requirements
  • Technical knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methods, and industry operations.
  • Basic knowledge of construction accounting.
  • Experience with reading construction drawings and specifications.
  • Detailed understanding of piping and/or sheet metal systems estimating.
  • Ability to layout plumbing, piping, and/or sheet metal systems and have a working understanding of the Uniform Plumbing Code.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in using spreadsheets, such as Excel, at a moderate level.

Education and Experience
  • College degree or equivalent field experience.
  • 5 years of estimating experience in industrial/mechanical.
  • Advanced skills in computer software.
