Job Title: Construction Estimator

We are seeking a skilled Construction Estimator to join our team at University Mechanical Contractors. As a key member of our estimating department, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed estimates for industrial piping, equipment, structural, civil works, HVAC/Air Systems, and complex mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Bid and budget all industrial piping, equipment, structural, civil works, HVAC/Air Systems, and complex mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate activities from receipt of plans to bid or proposal.
  • Participate in bid activities, including specialty quotes, equipment pricing, and subcontractors.
  • Generate subcontractor and vendor request for bid and call to confirm bid coverage.
  • Review specifications and drawings prior to take-offs.
  • Complete all estimating forms as required to prepare a complete estimate to a recap.
  • Update current pricing and labor in the estimating program on a regular basis.
Requirements:
  • Technical knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methods, and how the construction industry operates.
  • Basic knowledge of construction accounting.
  • Experience with reading construction drawings and specifications.
  • Detailed understanding of piping and/or sheet metal systems estimating.
  • Ability to layout plumbing, piping, and/or sheet metal systems and have a working understanding of the Uniform Plumbing Code.
  • Willingness to work effectively with other employees as a team member.
  • Ability to use and interact with spreadsheets such as Excel at a moderate level (input, data manipulation, basic programming).
Education and Experience:
  • College degree or equivalent field experience.
  • 5 years of estimating experience in industrial/mechanical.
  • Advanced skills in computer.
Licensing and Certifications:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
