Magnetic Resonance Imaging Specialist

Shift Type: Varied, Days, Evenings

Overview: The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Specialist is tasked with the operation of MRI machinery and the production of scans as directed by physicians. This role involves patient screening, procedure explanation, and equipment inspection and troubleshooting. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals and mentorship of junior MRI specialists is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
Compliance with Standards: Adhere to Performance Standards, Policies, and Professional Behaviors. Patient Preparation: Prepare and position patients for designated examinations, ensuring adherence to protocol and thorough documentation. Imaging Duties: Oversee assigned areas and procedures, ensuring high-quality imaging and thorough review of completed scans for accuracy. Support for Physicians: Assist physicians during imaging processes as necessary. Quality Control: Execute essential quality assurance checks and calibrate equipment as required. Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergency imaging procedures or departmental needs as they arise. Maintenance of Work Area: Ensure cleanliness of all workspaces, equipment, and tools. Report any equipment issues to the MRI supervisor. Image Management: Produce patient CDs when necessary. Administrative Responsibilities: Carry out routine office tasks such as answering calls, retrieving prior reports/films, and documenting patient information in EMR and PACS systems. Communication: Inform front desk personnel upon completion of exams and update radiologists and attending physicians with imaging and report details as required. Instructional Role: May act as an instructor or mentor. Patient Engagement: Introduce yourself, clarify the examination process to patients and their families, and ensure comprehension. Patient Care: Deliver appropriate care based on the patient's age, physical condition, and psychosocial needs, encompassing pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Meetings and Training: Participate in staff meetings and in-service training sessions. Additional Responsibilities: Perform other related tasks as assigned.Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program or hospital-based training.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required. ARMRIT-certified technologists must achieve ARRT MR certification within one year of employment.
  • New York State DOH Licensure or Limited Permit is necessary.
  • Maintain 24 continuing education credits over a two-year period, in accordance with current standards.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or must be completed within 90 days of hire. IV certification is preferred or to be completed by the end of a 6-month orientation. MRI safety certification level 2 is required annually.
