Key Responsibilities of the Lead Teacher

KIPP North Carolina educators are central to our mission of equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and character traits essential for success in their educational journeys and beyond. As a Lead Teacher, your primary responsibilities will include:

Curriculum Development and Instruction
  • Design and implement a challenging, standards-aligned curriculum.
  • Create academically rigorous lesson plans, unit outlines, rubrics, and assessments.
  • Utilize data to guide instructional strategies.
  • Provide consistent feedback to students regarding their performance and tailor plans to meet individual learning needs.
Fostering a Positive School and Classroom Environment
  • Exemplify and uphold the school's values, policies, and culture.
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and staff.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and share student progress regularly.
  • Participate in essential school events, including staff meetings, open houses, and parent-teacher conferences.
Embracing a Growth Mindset
  • Set and pursue ambitious professional goals annually.
  • Engage in constructive feedback exchanges with peers.
  • Participate in both school-wide and individual professional development opportunities.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A strong commitment to the mission of KIPP NC and a belief in the potential of all students.
  • A dedication to anti-racism, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience working in predominantly Black, Brown, and/or low-income communities.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina teaching license or willingness to pursue state certification.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Successful completion of the Praxis exams.
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check.
  • A demonstrated commitment to closing the opportunity gap.
  • Enthusiasm, resilience, professionalism, and a sense of humor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of teaching experience, particularly in elementary education (PreK-6).
  • Experience in high-performing charter schools or schools with a significant population of students receiving free or reduced lunch.
  • Proven success in enhancing the achievement levels of traditionally underserved students.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
