POSITION SUMMARY:
The Consult Liaison Psychiatrist plays a crucial role in delivering psychiatric consultations to emergency departments and inpatient units for individuals experiencing primary psychiatric disorders or psychiatric comorbidities.
This role is embedded within a multidisciplinary team comprising master's and doctoral level clinicians who conduct risk assessments and assist in stabilizing patients during acute psychiatric emergencies.
The psychiatrist will coordinate with Inpatient Behavioral Health services, which encompass a designated number of inpatient beds, to ensure seamless patient care and admissions.
This position entails providing coverage for the Psychiatric Assessment Team, primarily serving various campuses through a blend of telehealth and face-to-face consultations, tailored to the complexity of patient cases.
Collaboration with psychiatric leadership is essential for the establishment and maintenance of a new Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT) service line.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Behavioral Health division at St. Charles Health System offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services across multiple communities. Each location is equipped with hospital facilities alongside outpatient clinics.
The division integrates Behavioral Health Consultants into primary care, outpatient specialty services, and inpatient care, ensuring a holistic approach to mental health.
St. Charles Health System is the sole provider of acute care psychiatric beds in the region, equipped with specialized psychiatric emergency service beds.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a full-time clinical role, divided between consult liaison psychiatry and ECT services, adhering to a standard weekday schedule with potential flexibility for after-hours care as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Clinical Duties:
This role involves collaboration with a professional team of behavioral health clinicians to deliver exceptional care to adult patients. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting psychiatric consultations for patients with primary psychiatric issues and co-morbidities.
- Providing emergency psychiatric consultation services within a medical framework.
- Assessing high-risk patients proactively.
- Collaborating with medical teams to formulate appropriate care plans.
- Administering psychiatric medication management as required.
- Educating the care team on assessment, treatment planning, and discharge processes.
- Developing tailored treatment plans in partnership with the care team.
- Monitoring patient progress and adjusting care plans as necessary.
- Participating in the education of medical students and residents.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engagement in departmental meetings and continuous improvement initiatives is expected to enhance the quality and safety of behavioral health services.
Participation in mandatory educational offerings and completion of required training modules is essential for maintaining licensure and certification.
