Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector (NGDS) is in search of a Lead Systems Engineer to become part of our expanding team of diverse professionals.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, driven, and eager to learn.

The selected individual will collaborate within a compact team supporting the Mission Planning and Decision Support Operating Unit (OU), focusing on Agile development of MS Windows and cloud-based solutions, including User Story development, UI/UX design, external system interface architecture, and overall system design and integration.


Key Responsibilities Include:
Formulating CONOPs, conducting functional analysis, requirements allocation, decomposition, and interface definition to convert customer needs into software specifications.

Crafting User Stories and Acceptance Criteria for mission planning solutions.

Collaborating closely with the software development team to implement new functionalities and ensure compliance with requirements.

Facilitating iterative development of UI/UX concepts and designs based on customer feedback.

Conducting trade studies to inform design strategies and software/hardware selection.


Guaranteeing the logical and systematic transformation of customer or product requirements into comprehensive systems solutions that consider technical, scheduling, and cost constraints.

May involve travel to various locations.

Basic Qualifications for Lead Systems Engineer:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Computer Science from an ABET accredited institution.

5+ years of relevant experience OR 3 years of experience with a master's degree in a related field.

2+ years of experience in Systems Engineering tasks such as operational concept development, architecture definition, requirements development and management, verification and validation, authoring whitepapers, and conducting trade studies.

1+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer or Product Owner in an Agile software development context.

Expertise in User Story Development, backlog refinement, release planning, and user interaction.

Active DoD Secret security clearance investigated within the last 5 years.

Capability to obtain and maintain SAP clearance.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Willingness to work on-site in Manhattan Beach (CA).

Preferred Qualifications:
Active DoD SAP Clearance.

Experience with military aircraft mission planning systems.

Systems Engineering experience transitioning desktop applications to cloud-native environments.

Proficiency in mathematical algorithm development, MATLAB, modeling/simulation.

Experience in UI/UX development.

Familiarity with MBSE Tools.

Experience in programming/scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, .Net, Java, C, and C#.

Knowledge of Software Security Engineering, IA/Cybersecurity, and industry platform hardening practices, including DISA STIG Implementation.

Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+).

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, small team environment.

Salary Range:
$87,200 - $130,800

Salary Range 2:
$133,000 - $160,900


The above salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman evaluates various factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position, as well as the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may qualify for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are intended to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director roles may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
