Forklift Operator HAZMAT Job Description

As a Forklift Operator HAZMAT, you will be responsible for operating standard and/or specialized Material Handling Equipment (MHE) to move, load, unload, stack and unstack various bin, intermediate, bulk, hazardous stock and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate MHE to move materials within or near warehouse or work site
  • Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, conveyors, and shelves
  • Convey materials from storage or work sites to designated areas
  • Count, weigh, and record number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet
  • Attach identifying tags or labels to materials or mark information on cases, bales, or other containers
  • Load truck for Industrial Truck Operator
  • Stack or assemble materials into bundles and bands bundles together
  • Lift objects by hand or with power hoist, and clean work area, machines, and equipment
  • Operate industrial truck, warehouse tractor, electric or gas engine cart or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products
  • Operate warehouse sweeper as necessary to ensure cleanliness of storage areas
  • Possess the capability and training to receive, issue, and prepare for shipment hazardous materials
  • Use WMS and other Government Data Systems to perform the requirements position
Requirements:
  • Successful completion of OSHA compliance training and Hazardous Materials Preparer Certification IAW Defense Transportation Regulation (DTR) Part II, Cargo Movement, Chapter 204-7, Training, DLAR Preparing Hazardous Material for Military Air Shipment, and DLAI 1307 Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) Training for Packaging and Transportation Personnel Process Guidance
  • High School Diploma or GED (May substitute experience for education on a year-by-year basis)
  • A minimum of one year of related general experience and/or training including demonstrated knowledge
  • Specific experience of one year minimum is required of the type noted in Specific Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite of products including, Word, Excel, Access and E-mail business software
  • Demonstrate a good attitude and ability to work as a member of a Team
  • Position requires self-motivation and the ability to work effectively under a minimum of supervision
  • Must be able to multi-task efficiently, work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects, and have a strong attention for detail
