Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Crew Leader to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our transportation operations team, you will be responsible for leading and directing a crew of maintenance personnel in the performance of various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of Virginia's roadways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct a crew of maintenance personnel in the performance of various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of Virginia's roadways.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement plans for the maintenance and repair of roadways, including the identification of needed repairs and the development of schedules for completion.
  • Supervise and train maintenance personnel in the operation of equipment and the performance of tasks related to the maintenance and repair of roadways.
  • Monitor and report on the status of maintenance and repair projects, including any issues or concerns that may arise.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as construction management or civil engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role in transportation maintenance or a related field.
  • Proven track record of success in leading and directing teams, with a focus on safety and efficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation maintenance practices and procedures, including the use of equipment and tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a valid medical card.
  • Experience with inventory management and control.
  • Knowledge of emergency operations procedures, including snow removal and storm damage response.
  • Experience with flagging and traffic control procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
