Position Summary:

The Assistant Program Manager plays a crucial role in facilitating the seamless execution of WURD Radio's diverse broadcasts, programs, and the flagship show, Evening WURDs. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and organized professional with a fervor for live radio and multimedia production, capable of thriving in a fast-paced setting while upholding a strong commitment to journalistic ethics. This position involves engaging with WURD's audience, crafting captivating content, and ensuring the flawless delivery of programming and special initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and implement WURD Radio's programming and special initiatives, guaranteeing high-quality on-air experiences.
  • Support the Program Director in event programming, including assembling discussion panels, drafting outlines, and communicating vital information to featured guests.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for the programming department, ensuring that updates are reflected in marketing materials and digital platforms.
  • Participate in weekly producers meetings, programming discussions, team gatherings, and other assigned meetings.
  • Act as Executive Producer for Evening WURDs, ensuring the overall quality, structure, presentation, and execution of the show airing from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Thursday.

Additional Duties:

  • Serve as the showrunner for Evening WURDs.
  • Collaborate with the host on daily show rundowns, topics, guest interviews, special segments, and daily headlines.
  • Manage the show calendar, ensuring a minimum of three guests per show each day.
  • Develop special features and regular segments in partnership with the host.
  • Implement sponsored segments by identifying compelling guests, scheduling interviews, and assisting the host with preparation.
  • Produce all live remote and special broadcasts during the designated time slot.
  • Stay informed on current events and breaking news, developing a roster of potential guests for interviews.
  • Identify high-profile guests and conduct thorough research to prepare the host with interview questions and talking points.
  • Maintain a comprehensive source list with contact details.
  • Communicate with guests to ensure a positive experience, including securing bios and promotional materials, sending calendar invites, and providing follow-up with interview audio.
  • Prepare hosts, guests, or other contributors to meet established production standards during on-air interviews.
  • Assist with post-production editing, including podcasts and producing audio for promotional soundbites.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to promote high-profile guests and interview content across social media and WURD websites.
  • Edit shows for upload to podcasting platforms.
  • Craft engaging and descriptive show content for digital platforms.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in studio engineering, live broadcasting, and technical production.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to develop engaging interview questions.
  • Experience in guest relations and show production.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong coordination, research, and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in audio editing and familiarity with recording, conferencing, and streaming platforms.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to breaking news.
  • Proficient in maintaining documentation and updating digital properties.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience in journalism with a strong understanding of journalistic integrity.

Physical Demands:

  • Role requires performing tasks that involve prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment and occasionally drive a vehicle.
  • May need to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
