Position Overview:

Woolpert is in search of a Utility Location Operations Supervisor to lead and manage a dedicated team of utility locators and technicians. This role is pivotal in conducting thorough on-site assessments to accurately identify and delineate underground utilities. The primary objective is to ensure precise utility detection, which is essential for various construction, maintenance, and mapping initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Employ advanced electromagnetic locating and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) technologies to effectively identify and document underground utilities.
  • Oversee task assignments, manage crew schedules, maintain comprehensive project documentation, and evaluate work quality while providing constructive feedback.
  • Uphold safety standards and quality benchmarks throughout all operations.
  • Offer technical expertise and support to team members to enhance their performance.
  • Track project timelines and budgetary limits to ensure successful project execution.
  • Facilitate training and skill development for technicians to promote career growth.
  • Develop and maintain training resources, guidelines, and documentation.
  • Engage with clients, project managers, and stakeholders to relay findings and updates on project progress.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required, along with relevant OSHA certifications.
  • Proficiency in various electromagnetic locating and GPR equipment is essential.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail are necessary.
  • Candidates must be physically and mentally capable of fulfilling all essential job functions.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are required for presenting information clearly in small group settings.
  • Willingness to travel frequently, including overnight trips, is necessary.
  • Availability for overtime work as needed.
  • Basic computer literacy is required, including familiarity with data management, Microsoft Office Suite, and relevant surveying software.
  • A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are mandatory.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background checks and drug screenings is required, with periodic testing as per company policy.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling are required.
  • Good physical condition is necessary to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Capability to frequently reach, climb, and maintain balance.
  • Proficiency in using tools and equipment such as shovels, tape measures, and hammers.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Visual acuity for close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment is essential.

Work Environment:

  • Work primarily occurs outdoors, often in remote and challenging terrains.
  • Exposure to diverse weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Physical demands include prolonged standing, traversing uneven surfaces, and carrying equipment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment is required as necessary.
