Nurse Care Specialist

The Nurse Care Specialist provides professional nursing services to students and staff in a school setting. This role involves administering medication, providing first aid and emergency care, and maintaining accurate medical records.
Responsibilities- Provides direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy/procedures, and state and local mandates.
- Administers medication with appropriate documentation. Maintains medication in locked cabinet.
- Assist Certified School Nurse with student or staff wellness programs.
- Assist Certified School Nurse with special school or district projects as needed such as obtaining allergy action plans, asthma or seizure health plans.
- Assist Certified School Nurse and health aide in maintaining the health office as needed
- Monitor building AEDs regularly and report maintenance needs to health service secretary.
- Participates in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions, and the related archival responsibilities.
- Make appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
