Job Summary

The Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist II - Neurology to join the Kuchroo Lab at the Department of Neurology. The successful candidate will work independently, under general supervision, to execute protocols involving routine and non-routine experiments at a professional level. This position requires a strong background in molecular biology, genomic, and cellular biology, as well as excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently perform routine and non-routine experiments, including tissue harvesting, cell and microbial culture, and molecular biology methodologies.
  • Conduct animal husbandry experience, specifically breeding mouse strains, weanings, crosses, genotyping, cryopreservation, exporting mice, and importing mice from outside collaborators.
  • Calculate, transcribe, and analyze data using advanced statistical techniques.
  • Maintain long-term tissue cultures of human and mouse cell lines and monitor cells for viability and contamination.
  • Perform literature searches and help prepare presentations and written articles for publication.
  • Collaborate with the PI or Research Manager to establish new and modify existing research techniques.
  • Coordinate schedule of tests and procedures, contributing to the generation of protocols and documents.
  • Coordinate lab activities such as infection control, radiation safety, and bio-safety activities.
  • Prepare, order, and maintain stock of necessary lab reagents, solutions, and supplies.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new staff.

Qualifications
  • BS in a biological/physical science required.
  • At least one-year experience in a directly related research setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of initiative and ability to work with little supervision.
  • Hands-on experience in molecular biology, genomic, and cellular biology (cell-based assays, cell culture) helpful.
  • Computer literacy and working knowledge of data management systems.
