About the Role:

The Gastrointestinal and Inflammation (GI2) Drug Discovery Unit at Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd is seeking a Research Associate Scientist to join our biology and cross-functional discovery teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating and executing preclinical development strategies to support candidate selection, facilitating efficient clinical validation of impactful medicines for patients with inflammatory disorders.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in immunology and/or cell biology, with experience in assay methods such as ELISA/MSD, Western blot, qPCR, flow cytometry, and ChIP. They will also have experience with cell culture, including isolation, culture, and analysis of primary immune cell subsets.

The Research Associate Scientist will work closely with other Takeda scientists and external partners to create novel drug candidates and drive an inclusive, open, and effective culture in a fast-growing drug discovery group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate data packages supporting candidate selection and asset characterization based on current in vitro methods.
  • Champion scientific integrity and rigor in preparation and interpretation of detailed protocols/SOPs.
  • Independently plan assignments for a research work group or project, troubleshoot complex problems, and change experimental design if necessary.
  • Develop and validate new methods to support completion of complex assignments within a project.
  • Interpret and analyze data, helping to incorporate results into overall scientific projects.

Requirements:

  • MS in a scientific discipline with 3+ years' experience, or BS with 5+ years' experience.
  • Expertise in at least one of the following assay methods: ELISA/MSD, Western blot, qPCR, flow cytometry, ChIP.
  • Experience with cell culture, including isolation, culture, and analysis of primary immune cell subsets.
  • Direct experience with the principles, models, and pathways of autoimmunity, inflammation, and/or fibrosis.
  • Experience developing and/or evaluating small molecule, biologic, and/or nucleic acid therapeutics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with in vivo study design/execution.
  • Modern high-dimensional gene expression analysis (i.e., scRNAseq).
  • Multicellular culture systems (i.e., organoids).
