COMPANY OVERVIEW

California Bioenergy LLC (CalBio) stands as a prominent developer of dairy digester initiatives across the nation. Our innovative projects produce renewable natural gas and electricity, utilized as eco-friendly fuel for transportation. Established in 2006, CalBio collaborates with local dairy farmers and various regulatory bodies to implement projects aimed at minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing local air and water quality, generating employment opportunities, and delivering substantial benefits to our dairy partners.


POSITION OBJECTIVE

CalBio is in search of a detail-oriented and driven professional for the role of GHG Project Analyst. This position, reporting to the Manager of GHG Projects and under the guidance of the Director or Senior Director of GHG Programs, is primarily focused on facilitating the essential processes for the effective generation of Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) RIN credits, and Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) across CalBio's diverse project portfolio. This role provides an opportunity to be part of a dynamic team and contribute significantly to the transition towards a low-carbon economy.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities encompass:

  • Grasping the credit generation process under pertinent GHG reporting frameworks.
  • Developing project-specific carbon intensity (CI) calculators and verifying supporting data for precision.
  • Creating Fuel Pathway Application documentation, including life cycle assessment (LCA) reports and site-specific inputs.
  • Preparing necessary documents for quarterly and annual regulatory submissions.
  • Maintaining project-specific tracking systems and document management protocols.
  • Identifying and resolving discrepancies, misreporting, and data inaccuracies during the verification phase.
  • Drafting responses for third-party auditors conducting annual validations and verifications.
  • Engaging in site visits with dairy farmer partners, verifiers, and internal teams.
  • Upholding the highest standards of integrity, accuracy, and transparency in GHG credit accounting practices.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Further responsibilities include:

  • Grant Preparation and Reporting: Involvement in the preparation of grant applications through public agencies, focusing on calculating anticipated GHG reductions and preparing explanatory documentation while collaborating with other CalBio team members.
  • Data Analysis: Collaborating with the CalBio Data Team to monitor key metrics related to each digester project, including gas production, quality, and emissions reductions, and compiling reports that effectively communicate these metrics.
  • Other: As a growing organization, CalBio encourages adaptability in roles and responsibilities, allowing for professional development in various areas as opportunities arise.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, public policy, political science, engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of relevant professional experience in climate/energy policy or environmental issues within business, government, or non-profit sectors. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Technical knowledge or interest in the energy and/or dairy sectors.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of synthesizing and interpreting technical information for diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Willingness to tackle new challenges and explore various subject areas.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work setting.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) is essential.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to operate a vehicle in California.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position is based in the Costa Mesa, CA office, with the flexibility to work remotely up to three days a week. The role may require occasional site visits in industrial and agricultural settings, primarily outdoors in varying temperatures. Compliance with safety regulations and the use of personal protective equipment will be mandatory when necessary.
