Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Avionics Integration Specialist to join our dynamic team of experts. Your role will involve fabricating, inspecting, and testing avionics assemblies integral to our various spaceflight systems.

This position is a 6-24 month contract-to-hire opportunity. The Avionics Integration Specialist will be responsible for fabricating wire harnesses and cables used in electrical and electronic equipment systems for space system components for the Artemis programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performing installation of avionic components and systems, ensuring operational reliability and adherence to design specifications.
  • Reading instructions, such as work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to determine materials needed and sequence of assembly.
  • Mounting and installing components, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), relays, contactors, switches, and terminal blocks in panel enclosures.
  • Assembling cables, buses, and electromechanical systems.
  • Conducting detailed installations, including intricate cable harness configurations, ensuring all avionic installations meet safety and quality standards.
  • Inspecting, testing, and verifying avionics assemblies against technical models, drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Troubleshooting avionic system issues, carrying out necessary modifications, rework, repairs, or maintenance to resolve malfunctions.
  • Ensuring the optimal function of avionics systems by conducting thorough inspections, cleanings, measurements, and testing activities.
  • Understanding and adhering to quality management systems standards, requirements, and procedures.
  • Collaborating with teams to perform in-field harness installations.
  • Spearheading continuous improvement efforts in avionic installation processes, prioritizing safety and operational efficiency.
  • Maintaining a collaborative team environment, effectively balancing multiple priorities and adapting to rapidly evolving project needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Perm Resident of the U.S.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education.
  • Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns, which require extensive walking, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with wire crimping and connector soldering and experience with engineering drawings, wire diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/365, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience with avionics manufacturing and operation of related test equipment.
  • Proficiency in harsh environment cable harness assembly procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620, MIL-DTL-22520, NASA-STD-8739, J-STD-001, and ANSI/ESD S20.20.
  • Proficient in using measurement tools and understanding basic math concepts.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Further technical training or industry certification.
  • Any trade school training and/or degree in a related field or previous military experience.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years in a manufacturing role in aerospace or a similar industry, with a focus on avionics or harness fabrication.
  • Proven success as a hands-on technical leader.
  • Work optimally with a strong work ethic and close attention to detail in a fast-paced dynamic team environment with rapidly changing roles and responsibilities.
