POSITION SUMMARY:
This role involves overseeing and managing probationers to ensure adherence to judicial mandates. The officer will engage in the development of programs, policies, and objectives pertinent to their work group and department.



Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct interviews and assessments of offenders, including jail visitations and pre-sentence evaluations.

2. Maintain regular communication through office visits, phone calls, and field interactions with probationers, including evenings and weekends as necessary.

3. Research, compile, and assess violation reports, making necessary adjustments to documentation as required.

4. Implement random drug and alcohol testing via urinalysis and hair analysis, and provide referrals for further assessment and treatment.

5. Keep detailed records for each defendant's case and prepare bi-monthly statistical reports on assigned cases.

6. Ensure offenders receive court-mandated counseling, screenings, and referrals as necessary.

7. Collaborate with other agencies involved in the supervision of offenders.

8. Supervise offenders who are under electronic monitoring.


Additionally, participate in emergency management activities during local disasters as directed by county management.


Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field approved by the State is required.

Applicants must fulfill the statutory criteria outlined in Article 42.131, Section 5, of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which necessitates that the applicant holds a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

A preference will be given to candidates with degrees in criminology, corrections, counseling, law, social work, psychology, or sociology.

No prior job-related experience is necessary.

Candidates must become Certified Corrections Officers within one year of employment through state-provided training.

Strong computer, verbal, and written communication skills are essential, along with good organizational abilities.

Interpersonal skills and the capacity to effectively engage with probationers, the public, colleagues, and elected officials are crucial.

Ability to complete tasks within set deadlines is required.

Proficiency in Spanish, both spoken and written, is advantageous.

STARTING SALARY:
$27.59 per hour, contingent upon qualifications.


This position may offer additional compensation based on specific criteria such as possessing a Master's Degree, Spanish language proficiency, or skills in American Sign Language.
