About the Role

At Vertex Pharmaceuticals, we are seeking a visionary leader to drive our genomics and cell therapy efforts forward. This critical position will oversee genomic and transcriptomic analyses to propel the development of next-generation cell therapies that can transform patient lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead Strategy and Execution: Develop and execute comprehensive strategies for genomic and transcriptomic analyses to accelerate our cell therapy portfolio.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate with Research, Preclinical, and CMC teams to identify strategic opportunities and propose plans, tactics, and investments for maximum impact.
  • Cultivate Productive Relationships: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across Vertex, ensuring seamless communication and alignment.
  • Talent Development and Leadership: Foster a culture of continuous learning and growth, providing guidance and mentorship to team members to attract and retain top talent.
  • Budget Management: Construct draft budgets and manage execution of approved budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation.
  • Conflict Resolution and Goal Setting: Mentor team members, resolve conflicts, and ensure goal setting is aligned with corporate and department objectives.
  • External Partnerships: Oversee management of group's CRO contracts and external scientific collaborations.
  • Data Integrity and Reporting: Ensure analyses meet stage-appropriate standards for data integrity and documentation, leading preparation of clear scientific reports.

Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: PhD in computational biology, human genetics, genomics, systems biology or related field, 5-8 years of experience, and 2 years of management experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Proven track record in leading high-performance teams and developing leadership skills.
  • Genomics and Computational Biology: Advanced understanding of genomics, statistics, and computational biology, particularly in areas like bulk and single-cell transcriptomic characterization and proteomic data analysis.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to present to diverse audiences, and work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Growth Mindset and Adaptability: Team-oriented growth mindset, proactive attitude, and willingness to adapt to challenges.

What We Offer:
