Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities Serviceperson Assistant to join our team at Broward County Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing semi-skilled work under the direction of the head facilities serviceperson, supervising and participating in the cleaning program to maintain the cleanliness, orderliness, appearance, and safe condition of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review work performed by Facilities Serviceperson and other employees assigned to the shift as directed by the head custodian.
  • Instruct subordinate personnel in the proper use of supplies, equipment, chemicals, ladders, and safety procedures.
  • Perform the duties of Facilities Serviceperson, including activating, monitoring, adjusting, and turning off boilers, air conditioning equipment, power sources, etc.
  • Climb steps and ladders to change light bulbs and effect minor repairs as directed by the head facilities serviceperson, principal, and/or administrator.
  • Verify the security of the school prior to departure, closing and locking gates, inspecting the school perimeter, activating security devices, locking doors, etc.
  • Inform supervisor of needed supplies and recognize building equipment, mechanical equipment, and structural problems requiring servicing or maintenance.
  • Perform the duties of the Head Facilities Serviceperson for vacation and other non-extended periods of time.
  • Practice safety continuously and ensure a safe working area exists.
  • Participate in training programs to increase individual skill and proficiency related to the assignment.
  • Complete all projects in a competent manner and ensure proper recording of time and materials.
  • Perform duties requiring extensive physical effort, such as climbing, lifting, pulling, etc., which requires the physical ability to lift up to 55 pounds.
  • Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties required by the principal, administrator, or designee.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
Requirements
  • Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
  • Three (3) years of industrial, commercial, or educational facility experience.
  • Ability to follow standard custodial practices.
  • Ability to act as Head Custodian in absence.
  • Ability to plan and direct work of others and prepare work programs and schedules.
  • Considerable knowledge of all cleaning materials, preparation, and proper use of all cleaning equipment.
  • Understanding and practice of energy conservation.
  • Physical ability to climb and work from ladders.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to climb and work in above-ground situations.
  • Ability to operate heavy-duty floor scrubbing and rug shampooing equipment.
  • Completion of the Professional and Master Facilities Service job-related training program conducted by Human Resource Development prior to applying for the position.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
Work Environment

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interactions with employees within the department. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

This position requires heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

Salary and Benefits

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
