Job Title: Traffic Management Center Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Traffic Management Center Specialist to join our team at Gannett Fleming. As a key member of our Transportation Management Center, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of traffic on our highways.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage traffic incident response to crashes and other highway incidents and emergencies
  • Operate access and control traffic management devices, including CCTV, Dynamic Message Signs, and other equipment
  • Monitor first responder and law enforcement communications, including the Florida Highway Patrol, Communications, and Computer Aided Dispatch
  • Activate appropriate responses to detected and/or reported incidents, including dispatch of Road Ranger Service Patrols and notification to the public
  • Generate, receive, and respond to calls pertaining to various persons/organizations/agencies
  • Record all appropriate Control Room activities in incident database
  • Create and submit internal Work Orders for equipment failures or malfunctions
  • Function as a member of the Emergency Response Team when directed by the FDOT
  • Provide communication, coordination, and response with law enforcement, emergency responders, incident management entities, FDOT personnel, and others
  • Employ various software applications, including SunGuide, to control ITS field devices, monitor traffic flow, and perform data analysis
  • Review and ensure the accuracy of all data submissions in RTMC operator logs, reports, and documentation
  • Provide guidance to responders and motorists during severe traffic-related events
  • Post alerts, notifications, and messages on the Florida 511 Traffic Information System (FLATIS)
  • Assist in coordinating responses to disasters and high-profile special events that affect the roadway
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience in a public safety, emergency management, transportation dispatch, or similar environment preferred
  • Prior knowledge of the SunGuide Software and related systems preferred
  • Skills in interpersonal relationships and ability to work well within a diverse group
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports and correspondence
  • Ability to clearly communicate written and verbal information in English
  • Ability to take calls, dispatch on a radio or telephone, and otherwise clearly communicate information over a radio system or network in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to use freeway management and other traffic control computer applications
  • Capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with FDOT D3 Interstates and local roadways preferred
  • Ability to use computers in a Windows-based applications
  • Ability to work alternate work schedules and be on-call as necessary
Work Conditions:
  • May be subject to short or no-notice work assignments
  • Controlled, indoor environment with dimmed lighting
  • Dynamic, fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Significant periods of CCTV monitor viewing, monitoring other sources of information, and data entry
  • Heavy telephone and computer usage
  • Closely supervised shift schedule; monitored performance with routine evaluation
