Position Overview:

We are currently looking for a dedicated Transportation Management Center (TMC) Operations Specialist to join our team. This role is crucial in overseeing traffic incident management and ensuring the safety of both responders and motorists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in a 24/7 operational environment focused on enhancing motorist safety.
  • Utilize traffic management tools such as CCTV and Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) to monitor significant areas of the highway system.
  • Coordinate with first responders and law enforcement agencies, including communications with the Florida Highway Patrol.
  • Initiate appropriate responses to reported incidents, including dispatching Road Ranger Service Patrols and assisting first responders.
  • Handle incoming calls and provide information to various stakeholders.
  • Document all relevant activities in the incident database.
  • Submit internal Work Orders for any equipment issues.
  • Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team when directed.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination with law enforcement and emergency management entities.
  • Employ software applications, including SunGuide, to manage traffic control devices and analyze data.
  • Ensure accuracy in all data entries and reports.
  • Guide responders and motorists during critical traffic events.
  • Post alerts and notifications on the Florida 511 Traffic information system.
  • Assist in disaster response and special event management affecting roadways.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience in public safety, emergency management, or transportation dispatch is preferred.
  • Familiarity with SunGuide Software and related systems is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Proficient in writing reports and correspondence.
  • Clear communication skills in both written and verbal English.
  • Ability to manage calls and communicate effectively over radio systems.
  • Experience with traffic control computer applications.
  • Capable of multitasking in a fast-paced setting.
  • Knowledge of local roadways and FDOT D3 Interstates is preferred.
  • Proficient in using Windows-based computer applications.
  • Willingness to work alternate schedules and be on-call as needed.

Work Environment:

  • May require short-notice work assignments.

  • Fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Involves significant periods of monitor viewing and data entry.
  • Extensive use of telephones and computers.
  • Monitored performance with routine evaluations.

  • Starting Salary: $18.00 - $19.00/hr based on experience.
