Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a portfolio of new and renewal accounts within the assigned territory by assessing account viability through opportunity evaluation and requesting necessary information from retail agents to ensure thorough and accurate account reviews.
  • Underwrite accounts according to designated contract authorities and/or submit risks to carriers for consideration beyond authority limits.
  • Review requests to bind coverage for accuracy prior to processing.
  • Establish and achieve goals for portfolio management, including production, agency visits, product updates, collection issues, hit ratios, legal environment, and market changes.
  • Manage and nurture existing relationships with business partners (both retailer and carrier) to secure and expand recurring revenue streams.
  • Utilize underwriting discipline to manage loss ratios in line with carrier expectations.
  • Provide timely and accurate monthly and quarterly forecasts to management.
  • Support and participate in a collaborative cross-sell environment.
  • Ensure effective communication, supervision, and development of support staff, including conducting performance reviews and making salary recommendations.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts for new underwriters and support staff.
  • Oversee the daily operations of support staff to ensure smooth functioning and cohesive production units, including reviewing and approving expenses for direct reports.
  • Implement and enforce organizational policies and procedures.
  • Offer effective solutions to business challenges within the area of focus.
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge of insurance industry markets, products, and legal environments through continuing education, seminars, and self-study to provide value-added services to producers.
  • Engage in industry trade association events.
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • An active Property and Casualty License is required.
  • Strong problem-solving and solution-design skills; excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership through client support and advocacy, as well as mentoring and guiding junior employees.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or similar software, including spreadsheet and presentation tools.
  • Experienced in using agency management software with the ability to quickly adapt to new systems and processes.
