UPMC is seeking a skilled Emergency Department Technician to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide direct patient care and support services to ensure the highest level of patient satisfaction and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Emergency Response: Respond effectively in emergency situations, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
- Patient Admission and Discharge: Assist RNs and physicians with patient admission, orientation, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Restraint and Protective Mechanisms: Utilize restraints and protective mechanisms as necessary, documenting all actions and interventions.
- Treatment and Procedures: Assist with treatment and procedures, such as foley catheterization, catheter irrigations, oral tracheal/nasal suctioning, enemas, dressing changes, perineal care, and other tasks as directed by RNs and physicians.
- Vital Signs and Monitoring: Perform and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry.
- Infection Control and Safety: Adhere to universal precautions and comply with established occupational exposure policies.
- Patient Care Conferences: Participate in patient care conferences, providing input on patient care planning, patient/family teaching, and CPI processes.
- Observation and Documentation: Observe, report, and document all unusual symptoms, condition changes, and care delivered.
- Patient Mobility and Transfer: Assist patients with bed mobility, turning, lifting, positioning, and ambulating.
- Clinical Environment and Equipment: Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, including equipment and supplies.
- Education and Training: Complete ongoing age-specific and annual competency validation, as well as maintain proficiency in patient care testing as defined by the lab.
- Communication and Teamwork: Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, adhering to instructions from Clinical Managers and physicians.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Basic knowledge of patient care and monitor operation required.
- Certifications and Clearances: Certification in BLS according to level of training, CPR, Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting, Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI Clearance.
