The California Prison Industry Authority (Cal-PIA) is looking for a dedicated Operations Support Intern to join the Operations Division. Position Overview
This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited position designed for students. Employment is contingent upon mutual agreement between University Enterprises, Inc. and the intern, allowing either party to terminate the relationship at any time.
All applicants may be subject to a pre-employment background check, which may include verification of employment history, professional references, criminal background, educational credentials, or DMV clearance. Candidates must successfully pass all required checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. and the hiring department.
University Enterprises, Inc. restricts students from holding multiple positions simultaneously or working across different accounts within the same pay period. If an intern wishes to transition to another position within University Enterprises, Inc., they must notify their supervisor in writing and provide at least one week's notice.
Note that University Enterprises, Inc. exclusively hires candidates residing and working within California.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be enrolled as college students attending classes during the regular academic terms (Fall, Spring, and Winter, if applicable) at an accredited institution on our affiliation list.
Students must maintain enrollment in at least six semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate studies, or four semester units or six quarter units for graduate studies.
Declared majors must align with those specified in the job posting.

Work Schedule
Flexible workdays and hours are available, Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM. The final schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Additional Work Schedule Information
Interns typically work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and may work up to 40 hours per week during breaks (winter, spring, and summer).
Minimum Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A collaborative spirit and the ability to support team members.
- Individuals who have been dependent children in foster care, homeless youth, or formerly incarcerated youth are encouraged to apply and will receive priority consideration. Documentation of eligibility will be required prior to appointment.
- Assist the HFM core team with various tasks and projects.
- Manage and track the HFM support inbox, analyzing and routing compliance, training, reporting, and contract issues.
- Convert Facilities Maintenance programs, policies, and procedures into ISO format while supporting data analysis related to the HFM program.
- Provide technical assistance in analyzing data from weekly field reports and the Human Resources dashboard report.
- Evaluate staffing needs for the HFM Strike Force Team across field locations.
- Utilize Microsoft Office and other software tools to perform assigned duties.
- Develop and maintain Microsoft Project content to track team timelines and manage task codes accurately.
- Prepare training materials for the HFM team and generate reports using various data maintenance and reporting tools.
- Review documents for accuracy and assist in developing policies, procedures, and guidelines, including ISO documentation.
Ability to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, and use office equipment including computers, telephones, and printers with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions
This position operates in a hybrid environment, requiring adherence to the current remote workplace policy and signing a telework agreement.
