Assistant Manager Job Description

The Assistant Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the Dispensary Manager in driving business success by leading all departments within their assigned dispensary to deliver an exceptional customer experience while fostering a positive team culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • People Management:
    • Set the tone for a positive atmosphere, encouraging a customer-first philosophy and promoting a global mindset.
    • Ensure consistent delivery of an exceptional customer experience through staff training and development and enforcement of Justice Cannabis Co.'s policies, practices, and procedures.
    • Provide ongoing coaching and regular individualized feedback to all team members.
    • Maintain records on staff performance and ensure plans for performance improvement are instituted in a timely manner where required.
    • Support the Dispensary Manager in interviewing, hiring, on-boarding, training, and managing dispensary staff.
    • Help train and develop staff in accordance with Justice Cannabis Co.'s policies, practices, and procedures.
    • Hold all team members accountable for performing in a manner consistent with individual job descriptions, position goals/KPIs, and the Justice Cannabis Co.'s code of conduct.
    • Utilize rewards, recognition, and personal development tools to continuously encourage optimal levels of employee engagement and performance.
    • Support the Dispensary Manager by documenting HR matters relating to employee performance and discipline.
  • Sales and Operations Management:
    • Ensure all staff are trained on dispensary SOPs and state compliance protocols.
    • Ensure relevant legislative and procedural changes are communicated and trained to dispensary staff.
    • Maintain knowledge on all aspects of the medical cannabis industry to ensure customers are benefiting from current and effective cannabis practices.
    • Support the Dispensary Manager in achieving individual and dispensary KPIs, including sales, customer service, inventory levels, payroll, and overall profit metrics.
    • Provide feedback to the Dispensary Manager, marketing, and Inventory Coordinator regarding local product markets and inventory trends.
    • Makes suggestions to the Dispensary Manager on improvements to business processes and practices.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Support accurate and efficient inventory tracking based on system metrics and results.
    • Ensure SOP compliance personally and amongst staff to promote reporting consistency, mitigate loss, and achieve state compliance.
    • Communicate the need for adequate stock levels, proper product assortment, and consistent replenishment planning.
    • Makes suggestions to the Dispensary Manager and Inventory Coordinator for products, specials, and campaigns.
  • Cash Management:
    • Ensure cash in store is regularly counted, cross-checked, and balanced.
    • Ensure cash tracking procedures are followed to mitigate potential loss.
    • Report variances to the Dispensary Manager and assist in the prompt investigating and resolution of cash-related issues.
    • Hold the dispensary team accountable for consistent and accurate cash handling and ensure that the team is following processes and procedures designated by the Justice Cannabis Co.'s Financial Controller.
  • Safety, Security, and Compliance:
    • Ensure safety and security standards are consistently upheld.
    • Partner with the security team to proactively identify and mitigate potential risks to personnel and property.
    • Ensure all team members act in accordance with all safety, security, and compliance protocols.
  • Cultural Responsibilities:
    • Actively model Justice Cannabis Co.'s values and code of conduct.
    • Build strong and effective internal, external, and cross-functional relationships.
    • Be committed to creating and maintaining a collaborative, fun, and productive work environment.

Qualifications
  • Education and Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience in high-volume, fast-paced customer-facing team management.
    • Two (2) years of experience working with cannabis preferred.
    • Self-starter with proven motivational and leadership skills.
    • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while maintaining focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Computers and Technology:
    • Advanced Microsoft Office Skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Experience with point of sale, inventory, and transaction tracking systems.
  • Work Environment and Physical Demands:
    The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must be capable of lifting 25 pounds to stock product boxes. Position requires frequent reaching into cabinets and displays to show and review product. Ability to maintain a stationary sitting or standing position for up to eight hours in a day based on business needs and sales volume. Ability to bend and retrieve products from lower shelves. This role also enters information into sales and tracking systems requiring hand dexterity and the ability visually verify correct product information.
