Compensation: $35-40 per hour

The School Nurse is responsible for overseeing and managing the nursing process and delivering care to students in a school environment. This role may also involve supervisory responsibilities within contracted services. The School Nurse provides care in alignment with Amergis Healthcare Staffing's standards, policies, and physician directives.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate student care needs.
  • Demonstrates skilled nursing care in accordance with prescribed orders and Individualized Health Plans (IHP).
  • Administers treatments, interventions, and medications based on established priorities outlined in the IHP.
  • Monitors and documents the effectiveness of interventions, treatments, and medications.
  • Completes necessary documentation as per client expectations.
  • Coordinates and facilitates services requested between the school, local health agencies, and community resources to address student needs.
  • Communicates with school district personnel regarding the student’s care plan and IHP.
  • Notifies relevant parties, including the District School Nurse, Amergis Supervisor, parents, and physicians, about changes in student conditions and necessary orders.
  • Collaborates with educational staff and health agencies to design and meet the healthcare needs of students.
  • Ensures student safety at all times.
  • Adheres to Amergis and school district policies.
  • Maintains accuracy in student health records.

Professional Practice Standards:
  • Complies with the Nurse Practice Act and Standards of Nursing Practice.
  • Follows Standards of Patient Care and accrediting body standards.
  • Adheres to state laws, educational codes, and federal regulations.
  • Respects patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (LPN, LVN, or RN).
  • Current licensure as a Practical Nurse or Vocational Nurse in the state of practice.
  • Preferred one year of professional nursing experience.
  • Willingness to engage in skill advancement and complete Amergis' Competency program.
  • Current CPR certification and health certificate as required.
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and computer proficiency.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
