Position Title: Estimator

Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a skilled Estimator to join our team. This role is crucial in generating precise and timely estimates for HVAC and Plumbing systems. The selected candidate will engage with suppliers to compile accurate cost assessments for projects, aligning with project specifications and requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the estimating department's established processes and protocols.
  • Examine project plans and specifications for bidding opportunities.
  • Conduct computerized bid evaluations by designated deadlines, including comprehensive equipment tally sheets.
  • Draft scopes of work when necessary and identify any special conditions.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, conduct site assessments, and complete site visit checklists.
  • Execute computerized takeoffs.
  • Collaborate with trade superintendents on projects as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Engage with vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and adequate scope coverage for projects.
  • Review incoming scopes prepared by vendors and subcontractors for adherence to contract specifications.
  • Compile and assess all labor data for integration into the estimate file.
  • Document any special conditions or considerations noted during the take-off process.
  • Assist in developing schedules and manpower allocations for bid assemblies.
  • Support the preparation of turnover meetings with project managers and assist in document preparation.
  • Help with take-off estimates for ongoing work as required by the construction team.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records for all estimated projects.
  • Foster and sustain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to promote collaboration.
  • Develop proficiency in the Trimble Auto Bid Estimating System through ongoing training.
  • Continuously enhance skills in estimating HVAC and Plumbing projects.
  • Effectively manage time and meet deadlines in accordance with estimating schedules.
  • Assist in drafting scope letters for project bidding.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or completion of a Technical School program.
  • Experience in cost estimation for mechanical or plumbing systems is advantageous.
  • Ability to cultivate a collaborative work environment that enhances employee morale and productivity.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, time management abilities, and capacity to multitask in a dynamic, high-volume setting.
  • Proven initiative in establishing priorities and taking ownership of tasks.
  • Flexibility and a positive attitude towards assignments are essential.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and experience with Microsoft Outlook for email and scheduling; familiarity with Trimble Auto Bid Estimating System is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills to effectively serve both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to research and resolve issues satisfactorily.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality are crucial.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and adherence to company policies.
