Position Title: Estimator

Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a skilled Estimator to join our team. This role is essential in generating precise and timely estimates for HVAC and plumbing systems. The selected candidate will engage with suppliers to compile a thorough and accurate cost estimate aligned with project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the established processes and protocols of the estimating department.
  • Examine project plans and specifications to prepare for bidding.
  • Conduct computerized bid assessments by specified deadlines, including major equipment tallies.
  • Draft scopes of work as necessary and highlight any special conditions.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, conduct site visits, and complete site visit checklists.
  • Perform computerized takeoffs for accurate project estimation.
  • Collaborate with trade superintendents on projects as directed by the supervisor.
  • Engage with vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and comprehensive scope coverage.
  • Review vendor and subcontractor submissions for compliance with contract specifications.
  • Compile and assess all labor data for final integration into the estimate file.
  • Document any special conditions or considerations identified during the take-off process.
  • Assist in the preparation of schedules and manpower allocations for bids.
  • Support the organization of turnover meetings with project managers and aid in document preparation.
  • Assist in the take-off of ongoing work estimates as required by the construction team.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records for all estimated projects.
  • Foster and sustain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to encourage collaboration.
  • Develop proficiency in the Trimble Auto Bid Estimating System through ongoing training.
  • Continuously enhance skills in estimating HVAC and plumbing projects.
  • Effectively manage time and meet deadlines in accordance with estimating schedules.
  • Contribute to the drafting of scope letters for project bidding.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or completion of a Technical School program.
  • Experience in estimating costs for mechanical or plumbing systems is advantageous.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment that enhances employee morale and productivity.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, strong time management, and the capacity to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven track record of initiative, prioritization, and ownership of responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible and positive approach to assignments.
  • Proficient in Excel, with experience in Microsoft Outlook for email and scheduling; familiarity with Trimble Auto Bid Estimating System is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills to effectively engage with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to investigate and resolve issues satisfactorily.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and adherence to company policies.
