Position Title: Estimator

Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a skilled Estimator to join our team. This role is crucial in generating precise and timely estimates for materials and labor associated with HVAC and plumbing projects. The successful candidate will collaborate with suppliers to ensure that all cost estimates align with project specifications and requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the established estimating protocols and procedures.
  • Examine project plans and specifications to prepare bids.
  • Conduct computerized bid evaluations and maintain major equipment tally sheets.
  • Draft scopes of work as necessary and identify any special conditions.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, conduct site assessments, and complete site visit documentation.
  • Perform computerized takeoffs to determine material needs.
  • Engage with trade superintendents on projects as directed by the supervisor.
  • Contact vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and comprehensive scope coverage.
  • Review vendor and subcontractor submissions for compliance with contract specifications.
  • Compile and assess all labor data for inclusion in the estimate file.
  • Document any unique conditions encountered during the takeoff process.
  • Assist in the preparation of project schedules and manpower allocations.
  • Support project managers in turnover meetings and assist in the documentation process.
  • Help with ongoing work estimates as required by the construction team.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records for all estimated projects.
  • Build and sustain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to foster collaboration.
  • Develop proficiency in the Trimble Auto Bid Estimating System through ongoing training.
  • Continuously enhance skills in estimating HVAC and plumbing projects.
  • Effectively manage time and meet deadlines in accordance with estimating schedules.
  • Contribute to the drafting of scope letters for bidding projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or completion of a Technical School program.
  • Experience in estimating costs for mechanical or plumbing systems is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic setting.
  • Proven track record of taking initiative and prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible and positive approach to assignments.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and familiarity with Microsoft Outlook; experience with Trimble Auto Bid Estimating System is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to effectively address and resolve issues.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.
  • Strong work ethic and adherence to company policies.
